New uniform, new design

Niki Lauda and his crew present the first of the new aircraft to be rolled out from the large Airbus order placed in conjunction with Air Berlin.
The delivery of the first Airbus A 320 also signals the start of a new NIKI age.

The jet has had a complete makeover: a silver fuselage and NIKI the Fly. The wings of the NIKI Fly are opalescent and reflect all the colours of the rainbow. This is the first time that special flip-flop particles of paint have been used for NIKI.
The silver colour is mirrored in the interior, in the carbon-fibre seats, on the walls and tables. The silver is complemented by a leather trim in a called “sugar bean” that was created specially for this design.
A delicate beige and warm shades of brown are the key colours for the summer uniform. In winter the look is rounded off with denim blue.
The new uniform set: short-sleeved beige summer dress made of cotton satin, smoky brown suede court shoes; long-sleeved denim winter dress with smoky brown suede boots featuring a stretch shaft; brown tweed coat with removable lining; brown woollen scarf; accessories: narrow dark-brown belt, pins with the NIKI and Fly logo.

Niki Lauda’s comment on the new Airbus A 320:
“It is currently the most modern short-haul and medium-haul aircraft in the world.”

Facts and figures:
The A 320 is extremely quiet, environment-friendly and passenger-friendly. The cabin is 20 cm wider than, for instance, the cabin of the Boeing 737-800. Centimetres that mean passengers can enjoy wider seats. The aircraft has 180 seats with a pitch of 29 inches. With the newly developed carbon-fibre bucket seats, the pitch actually feels one inch longer. Also new: “AIRTRACK”, a system developed by Lufthansa’s technology section. This provides passengers with a virtual view of the landscape that they are flying over.

The A 320 is the first Airbus to be delivered from the order placed in conjunction with Air Berlin (firm order of 60 aircraft for Air Berlin, 10 aircraft for NIKI, with an option on 40 aircraft for Air Berlin and 10 for NIKI). The order is worth billions of euros and one of the largest contracts in the history of European industry.

The joint purchase is the result of extensive co-operation between the two low-cost carriers. The co-operation, which was initially sealed by Lauda and Hunold, has reinforced the strengths of both companies.
Air Berlin has a 24 per cent holding in NIKI Luftfahrt and in return provides services for NIKI. The purpose of the co-operation is to open up new markets in tandem. In a week’s time the two partners will be celebrating the arrival of the first Airbuses in the presence of 2000 guests in Berlin.
