Avis Europe to save €1.8 million
a year on global WAN Global network service provider to implement and manage
wide area network across 1000 sites in 14 countries
Avis Europe plc, the leading car rental
company in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia,
is to install the latest
internet technologies throughout it&8217;s European
operation, saving the Group €1.8 million per annum,
which is around 10% of the total annual data communications
spend. The completed network will initially link 1,000
sites across 13 countries as well as linking in to data
centres and disaster recovery sites in the US. Vanco,
the global network service provider has been contracted
to design, implement and manage its wide area network.
The existing technologies are being
upgraded to take advantage of cutting edge Internet
Protocol (IP) networks
and generating economies of scale through a single global
network. The new network also enables the Group to significantly
improve the efficiency of the &8216;Wizard&8217; online
reservation system to all of its locations, which is
key to its competitive advantage, while setting the foundation
for future services.
Mittu Sridhara, Vice President of IT,
Avis Europe said, &8220;This
contract is a good example of delivering significant
cost savings while still being able to make leaps in
service levels. We expect to increase our network capacity
by a factor of ten across our network, while bringing
our rental stations into the 21st century.&8221;
&8220;To ensure that the success of the network implementation
can be measured, we assisted Avis Europe in a due diligence
exercise to assess its current network maintenance and
management costs at site level,&8221; Allen Timpany,
Chief Executive Officer, Vanco said, &8220;Many international
businesses are struggling under the weight of their infrastructure
in difficult market conditions and the result is less
flexibility and a lower quality of service. Our asset
light and infrastructure independent model means that
we have the flexibility to meet the complex networking
needs of the largest multinational organisations.&8221;
