Electronic Plan
Room : Utah Department of Transportation
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) sought
a way to deliver plans and specifications to contractors
via the Web. After rejecting a number of vendors as
too costly, UDOT created its own Electronic Plan Room
(EPR) based on Digital InterPlot.
Web delivery has saved UDOT $100,000 per year in printing
costs, and contractors have realized even greater savings.
The EPR has also helped enforce compliance with CADD
standards.
The system creates a list of contractors who have
downloaded plans or specifications, allowing subcontractors
and material vendors to contact prime bidders. Also,
having bidding information online has significantly
broadened the base of contractors, subcontractors,
and vendors able to take part in projects.
Finally, UDOT has added ProjectWise to the EPR, allowing
online delivery of MicroStation DGN files and civil
design information to contractors on demand.
