Drägerwerk in safe hands with Vanco
Vanco centralises management
of the worldwide Wide Area Network for the Lübeck
medical and safety technology group
Drägerwerk AG has
opted for a virtual network solution from Vanco. The
Virtual Network Operator
(VNO) will develop,
implement and maintain the worldwide Wide Area Network
(WAN) for the global manufacturer of medical and
safety technology products. A total of 175 branches
in 40
countries in Europe, Asia and America will be linked
together in
this network.
The aim is to bring the complex network
of Drägerwerk
AG, Dräger Medical and Dräger Safety under
central management, as only 50 of the 175 locations
are currently under uniform supervision. At the same
time, the security of formerly country-based networks
will be optimised through the centralised solution.
Vanco, together with the Lübeck enterprise, took
only four months to create a network design that not
only meets Dräger's standardisation requirements,
but also ensures regional flexibility and cost efficiency.
The new infrastructure solution fulfils
all requirements for Dräger’s planned network restructuring.
Most countries are linked to each other through an
MPLS backbone, with locations in individual countries
then mainly networked via IPSec. A combination of DSL
and Leased Lines completes the last mile. Employees
at all locations have permanent access to the corporate
network through worldwide RAS (Remote Access Service),
even while travelling. Vanco also provides a comprehensive
security package with Managed DMZ (Demilitarised Zone)
and firewalls in carrier-neutral co-locations. The
DMZ protects corporate server and network components
that connect to public network providers and enables
Dräger to place applications in the network centrally.
"We were convinced by the flexible VNO model
because it matched our high demands for a centrally
managed infrastructure and consistently fair market
costs," explains Michael von Smolinski, CIO Drägerwerk
AG. "It was particularly important for us as a
global enterprise that with Vanco we have a single
partner and uniform Service Level Agreements."
